Howdy everyone and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Would you like an opportunity to show prospective students interested in the Department around campus or take them to class with you?  Would you like an opportunity to help interview perspective faculty members?  Would you like to be a student liaison between faculty and students?  Would you like to mentor other students?

If you answered yes to one or more of the above questions, you should apply to be a part of the Department of Agricultural Economics Aggie REPS.  Everyone who applies is given an interview.  The application, and interview dates, are posted on our Undergraduate Office webpage. CHANGES IN DEPARTMENTAL PROBATION/BLOCK (DISMISSAL) POLICY AND PROVIDING PROOF OF ENROLLMENT FOR PREREQUISITE COURSES –

Very soon, each of you will be receiving a letter for our Department outlining new Probation/Block (Dismissal) policy changes that will become effective in May 2010.  We will also be explaining new rules for providing proof of completion of courses that are prerequisites for AGEC courses.  Please read your letter carefully.  If you have any questions, please contact an advisor.

PROPOSED CHANGES FOR ACCEPTING TRANSFER COURSES –

We are waiting on final approval from the University’s Enrollment Management Committee to make a change in grades required on transfer courses.  We have proposed that to receive credit from any transfer course taken after the Summer of 2011, a grade of C or better must be made in the course.  In other words, we would not accept a grade of D on any transfer course taken after the Summer of 2011.  As soon as we hear from the University’s Enrollment Management Committee we will post this new rule on our website.

PROPOSED AGEC COMMON BODY OF KNOWLEDGE (CBK) COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE 300/400 LEVEL AGEC COURSES -

We have begun steps to gain approval to have AGEC students meet certain course and hour requirements to be eligible to enroll in 300 or 400 level AGEC courses.  We are proposing that students:

1.  Be classified as a junior (completed at least 60 hours)

2.  Have completed MATH 141, MATH 142, ECON 202, ECON 203, ACCT 209/229,

ACCT 210/230, and AGEC 217.

3.  If an AGEC student has the required hours and AGEC 217 is the ONLY CBK requirement he/she is lacking from the list of courses in #2, the student will be allowed to be concurrently enrolled in AGEC 217 and upper level AGEC courses, except AGEC 317.

As soon as we receive approval, this new rule will be posted on our website. (We are hoping to be able to implement this new rule for the Fall 2011 semester.)

VALENTINE’S DAY TRIVIA – ORIGIN OF VALENTINE’S DAY HEARTS

Around 12th Century people were not aware the function of heart was to circulate blood inside the human body. What they knew was the heart begins to beat faster when a person is upset or excited. They, therefore, derived the heart was the seat of emotions and feelings. Today, even though it has been scientifically proved that emotions come from the brain, the heart remains a powerful symbol of love and Valentine’s Day.
