COUNSELOR’S CORNER
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Please travel safely! If you are traveling at night, please watch out for deer. I hit a 7 point buck on my way in to work on October 26 and totaled my Sportage. Last night, Dusty hit a deer and it did a lot of damage to his truck. I haven’t heard if it can be fixed or not. I know you will be in a hurry to get home for the holidays, but please exercise extreme caution. We want all of you to return healthy and safe from the holidays.
The Texas A&M vs. tu game is back to the traditional Thanksgiving evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Kyle Field. As part of the twelfth man, and as a good way to work off the turkey feast, go to the game and yell as loud as you can to help the Fightin’ Texas Aggies beat the h$%l outta tu. Whoop!
Now on to advising matters…Please help us, the advisors, help you with making an appointment for preregistration help. First, DO NOT e-mail the advisor asking when they would be available to meet with you. TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN ADVISOR you must call our office at 979-845-4911. Whoever answers the phone will be able to help you make an appointment at a date/time that will fit into your schedule. If you email an advisor asking when they would be available to meet with you we will direct you to call the office.
On the other hand, if you need to meet with Dr. Boadu, you must email him at f-boadu@tamu.edu . Give brief information in the subject line explaining why you want to see him, then be sure and offer him several dates and times you could meet with him and he will respond back to you. You must use your neo account when emailing Dr. Boadu or an advisor.
We are also requiring that you bring a list of courses YOU think you should be taking in Spring 2010 with you to your appointment. This helps you and the advisor make better use of your appointment time by having a starting point for help with classes.
IF YOU PLAN TO GRADUATE IN MAY 2010 you can now go to our website and look at the bottom right side of the page and find the “Graduation Checklist” link. This link has been updated with information you will need to take care of for a trouble free graduation. It includes application start dates and deadlines, transcript requirements, ordering announcements/invitations, getting a cap and gown, etc.
Again, Happy Thanksgiving to each of you and your families. Let us not forget the men and women that are keeping America free to enjoy all holidays.
Gig ‘Em!
Pam

The following information will impact students whose degree plan requires certain PSYC courses, who have a double major or double degree with PSYC, and PSYC minors.
On December 9, 2009 from 8:00 am – noon, the Psychology Department will begin forcing students into PSYC courses on a first come, first serve basis.
Please understand that we try our best to accommodate our 1300 majors and 500 minors, as well as majors in other departments who need our classes.
Our department also offers many PSYC courses during the summer terms. Please advise your students to take this into consideration if they are unable to get into the PSYC course they want.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To keep this process as fair as possible, the Psychology department WILL NOT take registration requests over the phone or by email – students will have to come in person during the designated walk-in hours to RM 244 of the PSYC building.

Ms. McFadden; Kasey Hall; Jessica Martini; Tim Lehmberg, director of Gillespie County Economic Development; and Bobby Gierish, director of TRIF, talk about how to involve rural community leaders in educational programs.
Agricultural Economics majors, Jessica Martini and Kasey Hall, attended the November meeting of the Texas Rural Innovators Forum in Bastrop on November 10th. The students listened to presenters from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Southern Bancorp, and RAISE Texas discuss how those organizations are combating rural poverty through educational programs and economic initiatives. Kasey and Jessica also visited with representatives from Sen. John Cornyn’s office, the Dallas Reserve Bank, and various state and local economic development agencies and organizations. We encourage more students to take advantage of opportunities such as this through our department.
