TRIF

Ms. McFadden; Kasey Hall; Jessica Martini; Tim Lehmberg, director of Gillespie County Economic Development; and Bobby Gierish, director of TRIF, talk about how to involve rural community leaders in educational programs.

Agricultural Economics majors, Jessica Martini and Kasey Hall, attended the November meeting of the Texas Rural Innovators Forum in Bastrop on November 10th.  The students listened to presenters from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Southern Bancorp, and RAISE Texas discuss how those organizations are combating rural poverty through educational programs and economic initiatives.  Kasey and Jessica also visited with representatives from Sen. John Cornyn’s office, the Dallas Reserve Bank, and various state and local economic development agencies and organizations.  We encourage more students to take advantage of opportunities such as this through our department.

These TAMU seminars are helping students actually study less while remembering more than ever!

The College Capable Seminar Series is two 2-hour seminars that help students use their time effectively. They can achieve better grades than they have been while studying less. Learning how to work smarter, not harder, is the key ingredient.

“The techniques learned in this program enable students to maximize their GPAs with more free time to do the things they really want to do,” notes course facilitator Cody Blair. “We teach proven, researched skills that help students work in a more effective and balanced manner and avoid common study mistakes like pulling all-nighters, taking too many notes, and reading ineffectively.” Blair says most students who apply these principles earn better grades–as much as a full grade point!

 Here’s what students will learn.

Seminar One How to stop procrastination cold. No more putting it off until it’s too late. That means better grades and no more late nights! The quick and dirty secret to  remembering more in less time. HINT: You’re working too hard! The lazy way to learn. The proven way to actually spend less time studying each semester yet learn it better than ever. You’re friends will think you’re cheating!

Seminar Two The secret to taking power notes that really stick in your brain. You’ll get more studying done during class than most people will do all week! The simple method to cut college reading down to a manageable level. HINT: Less is more! How to get rid of the highlighter. Read it once and only once, yet get better grades on the exams. It will save you hours and hours every week!
